Rifle Elk Hunts
The elk rifle season in Northwest Montana spans from the third Saturday in October to the Sunday after Thanksgiving. This region is renowned for its exceptional elk hunting opportunities within the state. Our guided hunting area boasts some of the most mature bull elk, thanks to the unique combination of terrain, cover, and brow tine restrictions found here. Your elk hunting experience will take you through elevations ranging from 2,500 to 7,000 feet. During the late season Montana elk hunt, the weather plays a significant role in pushing elk down from the mountains. Interestingly, the lower elevation of our valley floor concentrates these elk, eliminating the need for them to migrate out of our area. This concentration of elk increases your chances of encountering and successfully harvesting a sizable Montana bull elk. To maximize your odds during this time of year, we employ a variety of hunting methods.
While we maintain year-round scouting efforts and provide you with the finest hunting guides available in Montana, it's important to acknowledge that your hunting success hinges on several factors. These include weather conditions, your personal capabilities as a client, and the crucial element of being at the right location at the right moment. Rest assured, we are fully committed to doing everything within our power to provide you with the optimal opportunity to fulfill your dream of harvesting a magnificent bull elk.
Archery Elk Hunting
Bowhunting for elk in Northwest Montana promises to deliver the most thrilling adrenaline rush of your life. Pursuing the majestic Montana bull elk with your bow during the mating season, while they echo their bugling calls, offers an incredibly action-packed hunting experience. These herd bulls are typically cautious and sharp, but during the rut, their focus narrows to one thing: breeding. Archery hunting is among the most immersive ways to delve into the world of elk hunting. Picture yourself surrounded by the resonant calls of bulls echoing through the canyons as you and your guide carefully maneuver into position. Our average shot distance with a bow is about 12 yards, so we encourage our hunters to practice at distances ranging from 60 yards to point-blank range.
Our guides eagerly anticipate the start of the archery season, as it's one of their favorite hunts to guide. They are seasoned experts at attempting to lure elk within bow range. There's nothing quite like the surge of adrenaline when an unsuspecting bugling bull elk steps into range of your bow. Even the most skilled archers may find themselves trembling with excitement when presented with an opportunity to harvest an 800-pound bull elk in full rut.
Depending on the specific circumstances and the client's abilities, we employ various hunting methods to increase the chances of success, including spot-and-stalk, calling, hunting near wallows, and tree stands, among others. Our preferred strategy involves getting in close with the wind in our favor and initiating a calling sequence. Archery elk hunting can be challenging, and that's why we are well-prepared and draw upon our extensive knowledge of elk hunting to minimize the chances of missed opportunities. This hunt demands significant preparation on both our part and the client's to ensure it becomes a memorable Montana hunting adventure. Don't forget to purchase your bow license before your arrival, and please be aware that Montana does not permit lighted sights or lumenok nocks. Additionally, this hunt can often be transformed into a combination hunt for elk, deer, and bear, enhancing the overall experience.
